Obie, Sande lift Havre to tournament sweep

By Jason Shoot

Havre Blue's Nick Obie fired an even-par 72, and Jessica Sande rolled to a six-stroke victory in the girls' competition to earn the Blue Ponies a sweep of the Havre Invitational golf tournament Saturday at Beaver Creek Golf Course.

Havre's boys were split into two groups, and Obie's Blue team finished with a team total of 323 strokes. Havre White finished second with 352 points, eight strokes ahead of third-place Malta.

Sande's 98 was six strokes better than Shelby's Roni Turner and helped Havre outlast a field consisting of mostly incomplete teams. The Ponies finished at 428, far ahead of second-place Harlem's 614.

In the boys' event, Havre brothers Jon Johnstone and Jason Johnstone placed third and fourth, respectively.

Havre's Julie Wagner placed third overall among the girls and Katie Miller tied for fourth.
