Activities are scheduled throughout this week at Montana State University-Northern as part of Student Excellence Week, culminating in the Student Awards Convocation and Student Excellence Luncheon Friday.
The awards convocation begins in the SUB (Student Union Building) ballroom at 10 a.m. Friday. Student awards, scholarships and this year's Student Excellence Awards will be presented during the ceremony. It is followed by the Student Excellence Luncheon in the SUB dining hall. Tickets for the luncheon are available for award winners and their families and for the faculty and staff at the university.
Other major events during the week include the Campus Improvement Day starting at 1 p.m. Thursday. This annual event is a campus-wide clean up. Participants meet in the SUB lobby and move out to pick up and beautify the grounds of the institution. A free campus barbecue and spring games awards will follow at 4:30 p.m. on the lawn at Pershing Hall.
Tuesday is Student Appreciation Day. Student Services Excellence will provide refreshments for Northern students in Cowan Hall Room 213 from 2 to 4 p.m.
Comedian and musician Craig Carmean is performing in the SUB ballroom at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Admission to his performance is free with a MSU-N ID card. Carmean, whose performance is sponsored by the MSU-Northern Program Council, has been named performer of the year in the college market.
Tickets are available for the performance at $3 for students and $5 for adults.
The Northern Peer Mentors are hosting a continental breakfast for Northern students from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. in Cowan Hall 213 Wednesday. There also will be a wall climbing workshop in the Northern weight room in the gymnasium starting at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Other events are going on for several days or even all week. There is a display of student art work April 23-27 in the gallery upstairs in the SUB, and there will be free recreation in the Pin-n-Cue downstairs in the SUB from 5 to 9 p.m. all week. The Pin-n-Cue offers bowling, billiards, darts and table tennis.
The Spring Games are being held on the lawn of Pershing Hall today through Wednesday. Students are competing for awards in a variety of unique spring games events. The awards for the winners of the games will be presented at the Campus Improvement Day barbecue Thursday.
