Beaver Creek burglars walk into custody

By Alan Sorensen

Four would-be burglars qualified for the world's dumbest criminals when they tried to make a backcountry getaway from Beaver Creek Park early this month. The four ended up in custody after getting their vehicle stuck and heading out on foot.

The incident began to unfold when Hill County Sheriff's deputies responded April 10 to a report that several cabins in Beaver Creek Park had been broken into. The deputies reported that during their investigation they came upon the four two boys, 16 and 17, and two men, 19 and 21. They learned that the suspects' vehicle became stuck and that they took off walking when unable to free it.

The deputies determined that several items, including beer, jackets and stereo equipment were stolen during some of the break-ins. After linking the suspects to the break-ins, deputies cited them with burglary, numerous counts of criminal mischief, numerous counts of criminal trespass, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of alcohol.
