Havre's First Street will be under construction this week and throughout the first part of June, said Dave Peterson, Director of Public Works.
A new 12-inch water main is being installed, which will supply first street businesses with water, while serving as a backup line for the main 16-inch transfer line that was installed beneath Second Street late last year. Peterson said that this line will replace the former First Street line that has left many without water on occasion due to breaks in recent years.
"They'll be replacing a line that has caused the city lots of problems," Peterson said.
Peterson said that he expects no water shortages or shut-offs due to the construction, as there will only be one tie-in to complete. The new water line will give the water plant another source water line that can be used, should there be a problem with the main line.
Citizens are asked to take extra caution during the construction, to be respectful of workers and other drivers and be patient with the work being done to improve Havre's water lines.
