Water while you may
By Tim Leeds
Havre Water Plant Superintendent Jeff Jensen said the watering ban will have to be extended into next week.
Jensen said that because of difficulties in the construction, the plant will be off-line again next week. He said people can irrigate their lawns this weekend, and the coin-op by Lions Field will also be open over the weekend, but the ban will be back after that.
"Monday we're going back to water restrictions," he said.
Jensen said they have run into difficulties that have slowed down the construction, extending the time it will take to complete this phase of the upgrade. He said one problem was running into a large amount of ground water, which took two extra days to get dried up.
Jensen said he will keep the people of the area notified about the progress and will let them know when the plant is back to normal operation.
"Hopefully we can get this done," he said. "just ran into a lot of snags that's construction."
The work being done includes tying in new pipes for the plant. It is part of an upgrade which Jensen said will hopefully be completed within a year or so. The upgrade will increase the capacity of the plant from 3.5 million gallons to 6.1 million per day, also increasing the number of filters to reduce stress on the system.
