Harrell announces hiring of Erickson

Montana State University-Northern men's basketball coach Brian Harrell has announced he has added Wolf Point's Mike Erickson as an assistant coach on his staff.

"I've known Mike for a long time, and when you look for a good assistant, the first thing you look for is loyalty," Harrell said. "I know Mike will be that."

Erickson coached the Wolf Point boys to a 44-12 combined record during the past two seasons, including a second-place finish in the Class B state tournament last season.

Under Erickson's helm, Wolf Point reached the state tournament twice, has captured two district championships and one divisional title.

Harrell said Erickson will play a crucial role in Northern's recruiting process.

"I wanted somebody who knew the state, somebody who could recruit the state of Montana," Harrell said. "He knows a lot of people and has built a good reputation. I think he'll be able to recruit the Hi-Line very well."

Harrell has yet to determine exactly what Erickson's job will entail.

"He has a great work ethic, and he's a quick learner," Harrell said. "I'll throw a lot his way."
