Kids find plenty to keep their minds busy Friday

The kids at Sunnyside Elementary School were learning things outside of their standard schedules Friday.
Students at the school attended different workshops throughout the day during the mini-workshop day at the school.
"I thought it was cool that people took time off to come and do this for us," Sunnyside student Lisa Morris, daughter of Cheryl and Daryl Morris said.
Some of the workshops included animal care and obedience, dancing, pottery, stained glass, exercise, chemistry and golf.
"It's just a fun educational day," Jennifer Pattison of the Sunnyside PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) said. "The students, and I think the teachers too, seem to enjoy it."
"It's been going on for a few years now," Terry Lilletvedt of the PTO said.
Kim Scofield of the PTO said she and Pattison and Lilletvedt called different people and organizations in the area to set up the workshops. The classes then signed up for which workshops they wanted to attend, and the classes rotated through the different presentations throughout the day. Sunnyside students said they enjoyed the
presentations.
"Because you get to do all the things and see all the things, and no homework," Jake Lilletvedt, son of Brian and Terry Lilletvedt said.
Logan Zandhuisen, son of Hans and Deb Zandhuisen, said his favorite workshop was the stained glass. "We made a parrot, melted the pieces together," he said. "And it rocked, 'cause I've never done it before."
Hayley Donovan, daughter of Jim and Brooke Donovan, said she liked the gymnastics best. "I think it's cool 'cause you get to see what other people do for themselves or hobbies," she said.
"I like the calligraphy," Michell Warden, daughter of Tim and Amber Obresley said. "It's just really cool the different ways you can write And it's nice they take time off to show us kids stuff."
Shaena Boucher, daughter of Todd and Missy Boucher, said, "My favorite part of the day was dog obedience. I like puppy dogs, they're cool."
