Tavern owners come up with cache

The Hill County Tavern Association recently donated $1,390.85 to the North Havre Community Services Food Bank.

The money was raised through the association's Third Annual Ice Breaker Putting Tournament, which took place Saturday, March 10. The tournament was made up of 42 teams of four, who were sponsored by local taverns.

Each bar had a putting area set up, and the teams traveled from bar to bar competing, the scores were tallied at the end, with first, second and third place teams winning prizes.

Taking third place and winning putting tournament t-shirts was "The 4 Putt Z" team, sponsored by The Shanty Bar. Second place, winning sweatshirts, went to "The Kings", who were sponsored by 15 West Bar and Eatery. First place, receiving windbreaker jackets and their names inscribed on a traveling plaque, was the Beaver Creek-sponsored "Fearsome Foursome".

The tournament lasted from 10 a.m. to about 6 p.m., and was a lot of fun said co-sponsor Jim DeVries. Cyndi Murphy, director of the Food Bank, said that she is grateful for the association's donation.

"We are extremely gratified that we are the recipient of this fundraising project. It's so nice to know there are people who care about the hungry in our community," Murphy said.
