JOPLIN Nicholas "Nick" Charles Bubnash, 93, died Wednesday, May 16, 2001 at a Yakima, Wash. hospital.
Funeral Mass will be 2 p.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Chester. Burial will follow in the Chester Cemetery.
Bubnash was born Dec. 19, 1907 in Stockett to John and Susan (Chorne) Bubnash who immigrated to the United States from Hungary. In 1914, they homesteaded 18 miles south of Chester. Bubnash grew up on the farm and attended Lonestar Prairie School.
On Nov. 12, 1942, he married Josephine Kantorowicz at Shelby. He acquired a farm south of Joplin and Chester in 1943. They lived and worked the farm most of their married lives.
They lived in Joplin for 18 years before moving to Chester in 1994. He developed pneumonia in February 1999 and moved into a Shelby nursing home. She sold the Chester home and moved to Yakima, Wash. to live with a daughter. He transferred to a nursing home there last month.
Bubnash enjoyed music and played in several bands over the years, including the Chester Music Band and Hi-Line Chuck Wagon Band. His other hobbies included hunting, fishing and playing cards. He enjoyed watching TV game shows and visiting with people.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, George, Andy, Mike, John and Steve; sisters, Agnes Skabronski, Annabelle Berger, Elizabeth Hale, Sue Bubnash, Mary Bubnash, Susan O'Lear and Helen Bubnash.
Survivors include his wife, Josephine Bubnash of Yakima; son, Nick Bubnash of Whitefish; daughters, Andrea Kinyon of Chester, Judy Buflod of Billings, Sue Bubnash of Yakima, Nancy Wuerth of Olympia, Wash., Debra Harris of Missoula and Connie Limesand of Snohomish, Wash.; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are by Rockman Funeral Chapel, Chester.
