Klimas, Hahn calling it quits; Murphy, West moving on up

By Tim Leeds

The Havre Public Schools issued a release today naming some recommendations for major positions to be filled in the district.

The district is recommending Jerry Vandersloot to fill the position of assistant principal at Havre High School, Dennis Murphy to take the newly created position of teacher on special assignment to handle some of the duties of activities director, and Mark West will be recommended to take over the Havre High head boy's basketball coach currently held by Murphy.

The Havre Public Schools Board of Trustees will consider these, and other, recommendations at its June 12 board meeting.

Havre High Assistant Principal Howard Hahn has announced his retirement at the end of his 2001 contract, opening that position. Vandersloot had originally been accepted to take the place of Havre High Activities Director Charlie Klimas, who has also announced his retirement at the end of the 2001 contract.

Vandersloot had served as the grades seven through 12 principal at the Roundup schools for the past three years before coming to Havre.

Murphy has been recommended to take over the position created to take some of the activities director duties. He will continue to serve as the head coach of girls' basketball at Havre High and will have PE/health enhancement teaching duties as well. He has been a head coach in Havre for more than 11 years.

West will take the head boy's basketball coaching position Murphy would leave to assume his new duties. He has been working with the basketball program at Havre High for the last 8 years.
