Art on the Avenue gives artists, kids shot at sidewalk art

Havre's Downtown Merchants Association will host Art on the Avenue on June 30.

Artists young and old will be displaying their work at various downtown businesses during the event. Teresa Miller heads up the Art on the Avenue celebration.

"All types of artists are invited to participate," Miller said. "We're not limiting it to just fine arts."

The Merchants Association encourages painters, sketch artists, potters, crafters, quilters and musicians to join in the event, said Miller.

"If they contact me, I'll get them set up with a merchant," she said.

In addition to artists' work being on display inside the stores, the sidewalks outside the Atrium will be open to all potential artists for chalk drawing.

"It's not just for kids," Miller said.

Beginning at 10 a.m., the merchants will provide chalk for anyone wanting to decorate downtown sidewalks.

Miller said that people are allowed to bring their own chalk from home, but that it has to be sidewalk chalk, which is water-washable.

Art on the Avenue gives downtown merchants a chance to open their stores to the community while giving them an opportunity to experience the talents of local artists.
