BIG SANDY Frances K. Miller, 90, died Thursday, June 7, 2001 at a Big Sandy medical center of natural causes.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Church of God in Big Sandy with Pastor Rowlie Hutton officiating. Friends are welcome to visit with family and view photographs

beginning at 1:15 Tuesday at the Church of God in Big Sandy.

Miller was born May 29, 1911 to Earl and Helen (Miltenburger) Korner in Great Falls. Her mother died when she was 22 months old and her father and grandfather homesteaded south east of Big Sandy. She attended Sheep Coulee School and graduated from Big Sandy High School in 1929. She started her teaching career at the Rice School in 1929.

She attended Normal Training School (teachers college) until she married Julius Miller on June 2, 1933 in Van Orsdel United Methodist Church in Havre.

They farmed south east of Big Sandy until selling the farm and moving to Big Sandy in 1953. She got an emergency permit to teach at Kabo Country School in 1956. While teaching country schools, she attended Northern Montana College in Havre and received her two-year diploma in elementary education in 1960. She continued attending summer school and earned her bachelor of science degree in elementary education on June 2, 1968. She taught at the Frances E. Miley Elementary school from 1967 to her retirement in 1978. She continued as a substitute teacher.

Miller moved to Great Falls and spent one year in a long-term care unit there. She returned to Big Sandy in 1997 and resided in the Big Sandy Long Term Care Facility until her death.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Julius Miller; sister, Helen Genereux; great-grandson, James Jeffrey Dunn.

Survivors include her daughters, Rosanne Frohlich of Stevensville, Edna Bitz of Big Sandy and Barbara Hoge of Marysville, Wash.; son, Peter Miller of Big Sandy; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Big Sandy Medical Center Long Term Care section.
