JOPLIN Margaret "Peggy" Ross, 93, died Friday, June 22, 2001 at a Chester hospital.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Chester Alliance Church. Burial will follow at the Joplin Cemetery.
Ross was born Sept. 23, 1907 to Marten and Josephine (Krolek) Clark at Brainard, Minn. She grew up in Minnesota, was educated there and graduated in 1925 from high school in Minneapolis. After graduation, she worked at a greeting card company in the Twin Cities.
She married Donald Arthur Ross on Feb. 4, 1928 at Zimmerman, Minn. He was in sales and they moved frequently, living in Minnesota, Wyoming and Montana. In Montana, they lived in Billings, Joplin, Missoula and Florence. Following their retirement in 1976, they moved to Joplin to be near a daughter. He died in 1985 and she remained at their home north of Joplin until her health began to fail in 1996. Then she moved to a nursing home in Chester.
Ross was active in the Florence Carlton Community Church and taught Sunday school and led adult Bible studies. On the Hi-Line, she enjoyed attending the Alliance Church in Chester.
She enjoyed knitting, vegetable and flower gardening, painting nature scenes and landscapes, playing Scrabble and solitaire, reading and staying in close contact with friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald Ross in 1985; brother, Christopher Clark; sisters, Dora Stevenson and Ella Fieger.
Survivors include her sons, Clark Ross of Galivants Ferry, S.C. and Leland Ross of Corvalis; daughters, Dawn Bjornstad of Joplin and Glee Clark of Reno, Nev.; foster son, David Rico of El Paso, Texas; sister, Mary Selin of Cambridge, Minn.; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorials may be made to the Liberty County Nursing Home.
Arrangements are by Rockman Funeral Chapel.
