While many of his players were juggling baseball and other high school sports during the spring, Havre Comets coach Bob Evans was struggling to put the pieces together and forge a consistent, winning ballclub.
After a sweep of Vauxhall on Tuesday, it appears Evans has just about placed the last piece of the puzzle.
After scoring four runs in the 10th inning of a 7-4 win over the Spurs in the opener, Havre continued its offensive onslaught with an 11-1 victory in the nightcap.
The sweep improved the Comets' conference record to 11-7.
Mired in a pitching duel for nine innings in the opening game against Vauxhall, the Havre Comets finally broke open their offense in the 10th.
A walk and a double set up Mark Benjamin's suicide squeeze to drive in Bobby Bergren and give the Comets a 4-3 lead.
Tyson Roe scored on an error, and Steve Heberly and Ian Spencer each added run-scoring singles later in the inning to blow the game open for Havre.
Reliever Ben Mader replaced Heberly on the mound in the fourth, and he was solid on the hill for six innings in picking up the victory.
He gave up just one earned run in the bottom of the 10th and scattered five hits and four walks. He struck out four.
Heberly was 2-for-4 with three RBI and two walks, and Roe was 2-for-4 with two runs batted in for Havre.
Havre batters really didn't need to swing the bat in the second game, but instead could have simply taken a nap in the batter's box if they chose to.
Vauxhall struggled finding the plate, walking 12 batters and hitting two more.
Heberly was the only player with multiple hits for Havre with two of the team's four hits. He also drove in two runs.
Cory Junck was dazzling for six innings for Havre, allowing just two hits and one unearned run en route to the win. He struck out eight and walked three.
Havre scored five runs in the first to seize control early. The Comets, taking advantage of six walks and an incredible 10 wild pitches, sent 10 men to the plate.
Roe had an RBI double in the third to give Havre a 6-1 lead before the Comets scored three more runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth to put the game out of reach.
Heberly drove in both his runs on a two-out, sixth-inning single.
