Local team finishes district tournament 3-2, places third
The Havre All-Stars finished 3-2 and claimed a third-place finish at the District 4-5 Babe Ruth Prep Tournament at Legion Field this past weekend to qualify for the upcoming state tournament.
Havre, led by player of the game John Christian, edged past Livingston in its first-round game.
Bozeman, however, sent Havre into the consolation bracket with a 5-1 win. Sean Peterson was named the player of the game for Havre.
Peterson again earned his team's MVP honor in Havre's eight-inning 5-4 win over Lewistown in a loser-out game.
Josh Morse and Austin Small shared player of the game honors in Havre's 10-4 win over the Northern Stars to propel the local All-Stars into the consolation championship.
Gallatin Valley, however, moved into the championship showdown with a 7-5 win over Havre. Scott Ladenburg earned the player of the game award for Havre.
Gallatin Valley, which had lost to Bozeman 10-7 earlier in the tournament to get dropped into the consolation bracket, fought back to win the championship with two wins over Bozeman 12-5 and 7-6.
Team members for Havre included Morse, Peterson, Ladenburg, Christian, Small, Kyler Way, Drue Ita, Jess McLain, Cody McLain, Shane Rice, John Christian and Justin Solberg
The team was coached by Stuart Small and Frank Christian.
