of feeling of well-being
Our view
By HDN Editorial Board
A sense of unspeakable horror has grasped our nation, our state, our town. That feeling will continue to grip us as the pictures unfold, as the story is told about how terrorists destroyed the two towers of the World Trade Center and attacked the Pentagon; how they accomplished what had seemed impossible within the safe borders of our nation.
No one will be unaffected by these acts of terrorism. We will mourn the thousands who were killed for no better reason than they went to work Tuesday morning in the targets of a madman or mad men who want to shatter our sense of safety and destroy our status in the world.
We will not feel the same about ourselves after such a day. No one can forget the sense of horror and violation brought on by the magnitude of this attack.
But we do have some control over how we respond. Thousands of Americans will need our help, our comfort and our support. Our children will need comfort and assurance that events have not spiraled out of control. They will need to be made to understand why some people are so filled with uncontrolled rage and hate that they can kill thousands of innocent people to make a political point.
They must be reassured that we stand strong as a nation, that we will respond in a quick but just manner, and that our feeling of well-being will be restored and not lost again.
