Extra flags are being flown in Havre today, in recognition of the tragedy in New York City and at the Pentagon Tuesday.
Mayor Phyllis Leonard said today she asked the Havre Lions Club Swim Team to put out extra flags today, and that flags be flown at half-staff through September.
Activities are going on throughout Havre in recognition of the tragedy and to help people get through the shock and grief they are feeling.
Denise Brewer of Montana State University-Northern said there will be a meeting tonight in the Fireside Room of the Student Union Building. Randy Ellis, a former security guard at Northern who is now studying for the ministry, and campus counselors will be at the meeting to talk with people with concerns or problems because of the tragedy.
Sharon Day of the Student Support Services at Northern said that office will also offer help and guidance for students.
The American Red Cross has put out a call for blood donations to help the victims of the tragedy. Vicke Larson of the Bears Paw chapter of the Red Cross said she is trying to reach the Great Falls Red Cross office to see if the Bears Paw chapter should hold a blood drawing, but has not been able to get through to the office yet. She added that she will announce any drawings that the local chapter will hold.
Local churches have already held special services because of the tragedy, and more are planned.
Some of the local services include one at the First Lutheran Church at 5:30 p.m. today.
Members of all faiths have been invited to attend a vigil at the Assembly of God Church today at 8:30 p.m.
St. Jude Thaddeus Church will offer its all-school Mass Friday at 9 a.m. for all who died in the attacks.
The Messiah Lutheran Church is having special services Sunday at 10:30 a.m., and the Van Orsdel United Methodist Church will have special prayers during their services Sunday at 8:30 a.m and 11 a.m.
