EDMUND ALLEN, Obituary

KALISPELL Edmund George Allen, 72, died at his home in Kalispell on Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2001, due to lung cancer.

A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Epworth United Methodist Church, 329 Second Ave. E., Kalispell.

Allen was born March 3, 1929 in Fort

Benton to Edwin Charles Allen and Hazel Ivy Shively Allen. He attended schools in Fort Benton, Long Beach, Calif., and Great Falls. His father died when he was 16 and he quit school to run the family farm.

Allen married Helen Cosetta Hammer on July 30, 1949, in Great Falls. He worked for the Anaconda Smelter and the Glacier and Petrolane Gas Companies. They moved to Havre in 1960 when he became manager/owner of the Petrolane Gas Plant. Upon his retirement in 1987, he worked part time for Tilleman Motors and the Duck Inn in Havre. He and his wife relocated to the Flathead Valley in 1996 to help their daughter operate Bayview Resort and Marina in Bigfork.

Allen was an avid hunter and fisherman and chose careers that kept him outdoors and moving among Montana's prairies and mountains. He enjoyed woodworking and created several family heirlooms.

Allen was active in Methodist churches in Havre and Great Falls and was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church in Kalispell at the time of his death.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by his brothers, R. "Billy" Allen and C. Marion Allen.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Allen of Kalispell; daughters, Debbie Kirby of Havre and Sharon Young of Bigfork; son, Brian Allen of Boise, Idaho; sister, Eloise Tomlinson of Las Vegas, Nev.; brother, V. Dale Allen of Casper, Wyo.; seven grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Cremation is under the direction of Johnson Mortuary of Kalispell.
