Travelers will see some additional security at the Havre City-County Airport.
Craig Denny, vice president of Big Sky Airlines, said today the Federal Aviation Administration is implementing new security measures in all airports in the country following the terrorist hijackings and attacks on Sept. 11.
"The terrorist have created a whole new program for airports and security," he said. "The FAA is responding very rapidly with new procedures."
Denny said most of the information about the security measures is restricted, but people will notice some changes in Havre. There will be a more visible presence of law enforcement personnel, he said, more searching of passengers and planes, and no unauthorized personnel will be allowed in restricted locations.
The airline is recommending that passengers arrive to check in at least an hour before their flight. Denny said at major airports airlines are recommending checking in at least two hours before flights because of additional security. Before the new security was implemented, Big Sky recommended showing up about hour before the flight.
Big Sky has temporarily suspended one of its weekend flights in Montana, between Billings, Helena and Kalispell. The airline is still conducting its other weekend flights between those cities. Havre's single weekend flight to and from Billings has not changed. The weekday schedule has not been affected.
