CHESTER The Chester Coyotes appeared to do everything right and more Friday night against Hays-Lodgepole, taking the thunder out of the Thunderbirds 96-26.
The Coyotes had five interceptions on the night, two each by Patrick Walstad and Ben Rooley. Sannon Norick accounted for the other Chester interception.
Chester had 275 yards rushing and 146 yards receiving. Norick led the Coyotes with 72 yards rushing and 65 receiving, followed by Walstad with 66 rushing and 32 receiving.
The Coyotes outscored Hays-Lodgepole 46-6 in the first quarter and 42-12 in the second in the win.
Chester had a 38-0 lead before the Thunderbirds scored thier first points on an 18-yard run by Nathan Martin. The Coyotes answered the Thunderbirds score with seven straight touchdowns, making the score 88-6.
The Coyotes continued to rally, despite both teams being scoreless in the third quarter, to pick up the 70-point victory.
