COWARTS, Ala. Guy David Howard, Sr., 54, died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2001, at a southeast Alabama medical center following a brief illness.
Funeral services were held. Burial was in Crestlawn Memorial Cemetery in Cowarts, with Ward-Wilson Memory Hill Funeral Home directing.
Howard was born March 26, 1947, in Livingston to Victoria and Guy Howard. He grew up in various Montana towns as his father followed his trades in mining and farming and then building and maintenance for the Great Northern Railroad.
Howard joined the Navy and served aboard the USS Kitty Hawk during the Vietnam War. While on rotation back to Whidby Island, Wash., he met and married Barbaara Elaine Woods.
He earned their living in the construction trades in Montana and Alabama. They relocated to Dothan to be near his mother-in-law, who was suffering from the end stages of diabetes.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, David and James, and a sister, Mary Ellen.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Elaine Woods Howard of Cowarts, Ala.; daughers, Barbara Elaine Swain of Waycross, Ga., and Victoria Evon Faulk of Rockledge, Fla.; son, Guy David Howard, Jr., of Dothan, Ala.; sisters, LaVoi Elaine Gable and Victoria Dianne Gameon, both of Havre, Lavon Phyllis Shaw of Arlington, Texas; brother, James byron Howard of Bennett, Colo.; seven grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
