Carroll topples Northern

HELENA (AP) J.D. Emmert passed for 275 yards and ran in a touchdown as Carroll College posted a 24-6 victory Saturday over Montana State-Northern in a Frontier Conference game.

The Saints (5-1, 4-1) racked up 444 yards total offense, including 103 yards and two touchdowns by Mike Morris. Morris scored Carroll's first touchdown when he rushed in from five yards out with 8:57 the first quarter.

Emmert ran in the second score, a 4-yard dash with 13:39 remaining in the second quarter. Morris captured the third score about 10 minutes later, when he ran the ball in from the 3.

Northern (1-7, 0-5) got its only score of the game at the 7:43 mark of the third quarter, when quarterback Brandon Kerkes connected with Andy Smith. Smith outran the Carroll secondary for the score, but the extra point kick went wide, leaving the Lights with only six points.

Rhett Crites added Carroll's final score, on a 22-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter.
