LODGE POLE Gilbert James Has The Eagle, Sr., 63, a retired mechanic and ranch hand, died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001, at his son's home in Lodge Pole.
Gilbert was born Aug. 8, 1938, at Lodge Pole to Joseph "Zake" and Victoria (Bull Cap) Has The Eagle. He was raised and educated at Lodge Pole and attended college in Missoula and Los Angeles. Gilbert worked on many ranches in Chinook, Harlem and Dodson. He was a mechanic and worked on cars and heavy equipment.
He always enjoyed giving rides to people in Lodge Pole and was sometimes called "Gillies Taxi of Lodge Pole." He enjoyed people, hunting and helping anyone in need.
Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Maxine, Myra and Mary Jane; brothers, Wilford and Gary; half brother, Merl Snell.
Survivors include his daughters, Marcella Lea Has The Eagle and Brenda Faye Messerly of Fort Belknap, Crystal Elaine Has The Eagle Max of Sisseton, S.D.; sons, Gilbert James Has The Eagle, Jr., of Fort Belknap, Ronald Dean Has The Eagle of Lodge Pole; sisters, Ruby First Smoke, Darlene Parisian and Christine Long Fox; half brothers, Jesse Snell, Calvin Snell and Curtis Snell, all of Lodge Pole; 12 grandchildren.
