Friday, Nov. 9, is the deadline for submitting nominations for the 2002 Alumni Athletic Hall of Fame award.
Recipients will be inducted into the Hall of Fame on Saturday evening, February 16, 2002, during the basketball games against Montana Tech.
Since it's inception in 1994, thirty-seven coaches and athletes have been inducted into the Hall of Fame.
The purpose of the Athletic Hall of Fame is to recognize players, managers, and coaches who have made outstanding contributions to athletics at Northern. Other individuals, for outstanding and meritorious service to Northern Athletics, may also be recognized.
Before election of any person to the Athletic Hall of Fame, the Selection Committee requires a written nomination of such person. The nomination will include: Collegiate and/or coaching records of the nominee, including conference, district and national honors and awards; achievements and honors since graduation/leaving Northern; professional and service accomplishments, other honors and awards; and a biographical sketch.
In order for the nominee's name to appear on the ballot, the Selection Committee also must receive three letters of support from any of the following: the president, chancellor, dean or athletic director of the nominee's institution, present or past coaches or teammates, and a recent photograph of the nominee.
The Selection Committee may elect any number of persons to the Hall of Fame each year or may decline to elect any persons or all persons nominated in any years.
The main criteria for selection into the Athletic Hall of Fame are the achievement of individual athletic honors in their sport. Consideration will be given for years participated at Northern and the amount and type of All-Conference, All-District, and All-American honors achieved at Northern.
Nominations must be turned in to the Northern Alumni Office in Room 211 of Donaldson Hall by the Nov. 9 deadline.
