Howdy Beaver

We have nothing bad to report from the beautiful Bear Paws this week. Last week it was really warm for November. This week is supposed to be colder and we may get some rain and snow. That is really a wonderful way to go through October and November. It gets us sort of prepared for the colder weather of December and January and all the while makes for weather so nice out that it is a grand time to just enjoy the out of doors.
It does occur to us that we have not talked any football in this column yet this season. And a very good season it is particularly with the NFL, where we have several new "favorite" teams. A word of explanation. Our team is America's team, the Cowboys. But they are in such a loser mode that it has become necessary for us to choose other teams to root for just not to be depressed week after week.
But first those Cowboys. Their hope this year is to be in the hands of Ryan Leaf from Great Falls. He is a wonderful player who has managed to make quite a mess out of his NFL career so far. But you know, we think he is not all that bad for Dallas. He may have matured a bit and although he is no Troy Aikman, he might be just what Dallas needs. One thing about Ryan Leaf he can get the ball down the field in quick time.
We have been following Oakland for a couple of years now. And you know, they might actually go to a Super Bowl one of these years, and it might be sooner than we think. Like this year? Maybe. Stranger things have happened.
Take Chicago for instance. Just this fall they were looking for a completely new coaching staff and now they are the leaders in their division. How about them apples? Or more appropriately, how about dem Bears?
Then there is San Diego, our other new team.We like Doug Flutie and thought what Buffalo did to him was dismal and they deserves to not win a single game this season for doing it. But wherever he goes, we root for him, so when he is in San Diego, they are our team. And it helps that Dave Dickenson is the third string quarterback on that team as well. He is a Great Falls native who took the Grizzlies to championship seasons before going to play at Calgary in the CFL just like Flutie. Our dream is that one day Flutie will get banged up, just a tad, you understand, and that Dave will come in and lead the troops to victory.
All of a sudden Kansas City is doing better and so is Washington, of all things. However, our other team, the Broncos, is so broken and banged up right now that we do not expect much out of them.
And lastly, for the couple of Pittsburgh fans in Havre, go Slash!
The NFL gets better and better each year. On any given Sunday any NFL team can beat any other NFL team. That makes for good football watching. And yes, even the Vikings could possibly beat Green Bay this year, but don't hold your breath for that one.
