BETTY SPRINKLE, Obituary

CHINOOK Betty A. Sprinkle, 83, well-respected Blaine County resident and teacher, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2001, at a Havre hospital due to cancer.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday in the United Methodist Church with burial following in Kuper Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. today at Edwards Funeral Home.

Betty was born March 26, 1918, in Minneapolis, Minn., to Ross and Maida (Hollett) McCartney. She attended schools in Fulton and Oaks, N.D., before the family moved to Billings and then Chinook in 1931. She graduated from Chinook High School in 1936.

Betty attended the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis for four years and returned to Chinook to work in the family Blaine County Abstract Office in Chinook.

Betty married Dave Sprinkle on July 8, 1941, in Chinook. She started her teaching career at Cole School in the late 1950s. She taught two years at Turner before coming to Chinook to teach special education and the fourth grade. She retired in 1979.

Betty was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church and taught Sunday school for many years. She was active in Eastern Star, Delta Kappa Gamma, Garden Club and the Thursday Lunch Bunch.

Betty enjoyed gardening and loved to be with people.

She is survived by her husband, Dave Sprinkle of Chinook; daughter, Jolyn Anderson of Miles City; sister, Colleen Allison of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; brother, Tom McCartney of LaVeta, Colo.; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
