Changing of the guard at the Chamber

By Rick Sedahl

It was brought to my attention that I had an article due for the paper. Chamber directors have the opportunity to write an article on an annual basis and as outgoing president, I realized this was going to be my last article. I wanted to make sure to thank the many supporters of the Chamber and the members who belong to the Chamber. Mostly, I wanted to thank the members of the board of directors. This board has a vast amount of experience and has worked diligently to make Havre a better place to live and do business. They individually are outstanding people, but as a team they really excel.

There have been a number of projects and events that members of the Chamber have worked to accomplish. Havre now has a Leadership High School program. This program is for high school juniors to help develop leadership qualities in these young members of our community. A CD-ROM that allows the viewer to see many of the positive qualities of our community is now available. This is a highly effective tool for recruiting purposes. The Chamber has facilitated community meetings with Montana Department of Transportation's Mick Johnson pertaining to U.S. Highway 2 improvements, and with Big Sky Airlines vice president Craig Denny to discuss airline service in Havre, and is always active in local and state events that pertain to Havre and the business area. A community park will also become a reality in the near future.

The point I'm trying to make is for people to get involved and work together. Why wait for someone to ask for your help or your opinion? Step forward, work together as a team and get things accomplished. We must support our local businesses, keep our community clean, and as a group we can prosper.

No one person makes our Chamber, our city, our state or our country successful. It is only when individuals, with different thoughts and ideas, work together as one that goals get accomplished. Thank you, Chamber, for being a great team.
