Vernon Lawrence Mitchell, 49, died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001, at a Havre hospital. Cause of death is under coroner's investigation. A wake began the evening on Friday at Our Savior Lutheran Church. A funeral service was at 11 a.m. Saturday at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Rocky Boy with Pastor Ruth Botaw officiating. Burial followed at the Rocky Boy Cemetery.
Vernon was born Sept. 6, 1952, to David James and Myrna Frances (Grey) Mitchell of Great Falls. He attended Montana State University-Northern, University
of Montana, and received his chef degree in Oxford, Wis. Vernon worked as the home student coordinator at Rocky Boy, was head chef at Jakers in Great Falls, was the senior citizen center chef in Toole, Utah, and chef at the Care Center in Salt Lake City.
Vernon was a coach for the Rocky Boy High School football team. Vernon was an avid sports fan, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, played the harmonica, worked on cars, and worked with the youth group at Our Savior Lutheran Church at Rocky Boy.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Rhonda Mitchell; brother, David Mitchell Jr.; and nephew, Benito Mondragon.
Vernon is survived by his wife, Linda Azure of Havre; daughters, Cheryl Albert of Quinault, Wash. and Tamura Mitchell of Havre; sons, Theran Albert Mitchell of Glasgow and Chance Thomas LaMere Mitchell of Rocky Boy; sisters, Cheryl Graham of Little Field, Ariz., Vivian Gayle Mondragon of Great Falls, and Donna Mitchell of Rocky Boy; brothers, Wilson Mitchell of Rocky Boy, Marshall "Dee" Azure Young of Seattle, Wash., and Peter Mitchell and Gordon Mitchell, both of Great Falls; nine grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services and arrangements are under the direction of the Holland and Bonine Funeral Home.
