Richard W. Brown, 78 years of age, and retired farmer died Monday December 31, 2001, at a Havre care facility of natural causes.
Funeral service is 11 a.m. Friday at the Holland and Bonine Chapel with Rowlie Hutton officiating. Burial is to follow at the Calvary Cemetery. Fellowship
to follow burial at the Eagle's Club.
Richard was born March 7, 1923, to William E. and Lydia (Bentor) Brown at Laredo. He attended school at Laredo and then went into the family operation of farming and ranching.
On Oct. 24, 1944, Richard married Helen Arlene Daniel at Malta. They had three children. They just recently celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary. Richard and his wife spent most of their lives farming in Laredo. They made their home south of Havre at the area still known as Farmer Brown's Place in his honor. They moved to Havre in 1999.
Richard was a 57-year member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. His greatest loves were his family, the land that he farmed, and his cattle. He would spend many hours driving around the countryside looking over the fields. He was known by others to be very kind and generous. He was always there to lend a helping hand or a gallon of gas. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and collecting knives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William E. and Lydia (Bentor) Brown, and grandson, William Brown.
Survivors include his wife, Arlene Brown of Havre; daughter, Pamela E. Brown of Nashville, Tenn.; sons, David W. (Julie) Brown of Havre, Matthew O. (Jimmi Linn) Brown of Havre; sisters, Ethel (Percy) Couch of Havre, Helen (Bill) Lawrence of South Bend, Wash.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be sent to Richard W. Brown Memorial Fund, 1607 Pine Drive, Havre, MT 59501. Memorial funds will purchase a painting by a local artist, and the painting will be donated to the Northern Montana Care Center in his memory.
Services and arrangements are under the direction of the Holland and Bonine Funeral Home.
