Havre Syntech hockey team wins three at Billings

The Havre Syntech Ice Hawks traveled to Billings for four games Saturday and Sunday, winning three and the other ending in a tie.

Against the Miles City Generals Saturday, Willy Schilling scored two unassisted goals leading to a 2-2 tie. Schilling moved from his normal defeseman position to play center.

After the first period of the game, neither team had scored. Miles City scored the first two goals of the game during the second period. Schilling responded during the second period on a breakaway. He later scored the tying goal with just under two minutes left in the game.

Goalie Michael Erickson had 28 saves on the game.

Facing the Billings C Junior Bulls next, Havre came away with a big 9-1 win.

Havre led 2-0 at the end of the first period and added four more scores in the second. The Ice Hawks poured in three more goals in the third, but the shutout was ruined with just seconds left as Billings scored.

First period goals were scored by Todd Roe, assisted by Drew Linquist and an unassisted goal by David Zentmire.

Tyler Boyce, Nick Nault, Troy Williams and Roe scored goals in the second period. Boyce's goal was assisted by Williams and Nault, Roe assisted Nault's score, Boyce assisted Williams' goal and Brad Hanson had the assist on Roe's second goal.

The final scores were by Nault, assisted by Roe and unassisted goals by Zentmire and Boyce.

Havre took on the Billings B Junior Bulls in a game on Sunday, winning 3-2.

Tyler Boyce had a hat trick with three unassisted goals.

Billings scored first only five minutes into the game and took a 1-0 lead into the second period. Havre tied the game at the 7:07 mark of the second period when Boyce went top-shelf with his first goal.

Billings scored just over two minutes later to regain the lead, but 38 seconds later, Boyce once again tied the score. The second period ended in a 2-2 tie. Midway through the third period, Boyce scored his third and game-winning goal.

David Zentmire had 30 saves as goalie.

Wrapping up the tournament, the Ice Hawks faced Gillette, Wyo., coming away with a 6-4 win.

Michael Erickson and Todd Roe each had two goals in the game with Tyler Boyce and Willy Schilling adding the other two. Assists were given to Boyce, Matt Hartman, Schilling, Erickson and Andrew Linquist.

Havre scored first when Erickson and Boyce combined for a score. Havre took a 1-0 lead into the second and scored quickly with Boyce's unassisted goal.

Gillette responded with a goal, cutting the lead to one, but less than one minute later, Roe took a pass from Hartman, taking the score to 3-1.

Each team scored three goals in the third period. Gillette scored each of its goals on power plays, with one of the power plays being a five on three.

Goalie David Zentmire had 19 saves.

The Syntech Ice Hawks have this weekend off and will then travel to Great Falls for a tournament Feb. 8-10.
