The Great Falls High Bison came to Havre High Friday night winless on the road, a streak the Ponies wanted to ensure stayed in place.
With the emotions of senior night filling the air, the Ponies took the game to the wire, before falling 66-63 in the final seconds of play.
Havre (4-14) had a brief lead at 63-62 with 51 seconds remaining in the game after Cory Brothers (11 points) made a basket. The hoop by Brothers was the last time the Ponies scored in the game.
Great Falls' Bryce Erickson followed Brother's shot with a basket of his own as the Bison regained the lead, 64-63.
With 24 seconds left in the game, Cody Gillespie made one of two free throws, giving the Bison a two-point lead. After a Havre timeout with 19 seconds remaining, the Ponies missed field-goal attempts at tying the game.
Senior Titus Pedraza fouled out with nine seconds remaining in the game, sending Brian Lynch back to the free-throw line. Lynch made his second free throw, giving the Bison a three-point lead.
The Ponies had one final attempt at tying the game, but a missed three-point attempt by Brothers sealed the victory for Great Falls.
The Ponies started the game down by four, but sparked by a three-pointer by senior Mike Frey, Havre went on a 15-0 run in just over four minutes of play. Lynch ended the run with a short jump shot at the 3:09 mark in the first quarter.
The Ponies led 19-14 after the first quarter, but were outscored 18-11 in the second to fall down 32-30 at the half. The Bison took a five-point lead, 48-43, into the fourth quarter.
Frey ended his career in the Blue Pony Corral with a team-high 15 points. Brothers followed as the only other Havre player in double figures with 11 points. Kyle Sheppard added two points, Doug Ireland six, Kevin Harada nine and Titus Pedraza six as the other Havre seniors scoring.
The Bison (5-10) were led by Lynch's 25 points and Gillespie's 21.
Havre's season winds down as the Ponies travel to Great Falls to play in the Central A Divisional Tournament beginning Thursday and finishing Saturday. The Ponies play Belgrade in the first round Thursday night at 7.
