HAVRE Francis "Pete" Peterson, 78, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002, in a Havre hospital after an extended illness.
Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday at St. Jude's Catholic Church in Havre. Following the service, there will be a reception at the Havre Eagles Club.
Pete was born in Harlem on May 9, 1923, to Otto and Florence Peterson. He attended Harlem schools and graduated from Harlem High School in 1941. He married Bernice Fitzsimmons, also from Harlem, on Aug. 22, 1942. After three years of service during World War II, they moved to Havre, where Pete was employed by The Havre Daily News as a printer for 40 years.
Pete was a member of the Havre Eagles Club for 40 years and the Knights of Columbus. He will be remembered as an avid sports fan, being competitive in bowling, pool and horseshoes. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, playing cards with friends, and spending time with his family.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Alice Mae Peterson and Evelyn Mitchell.
Survivors include his wife Bernice Peterson of Havre; daughters, Rose-Marie (Pat) Tierney and Sheila (Craig) Otterstrom, both of Havre; sons, Frank (Connie) Peterson and Gary Peterson (fiance Robin LaBrie), both of Havre, and son Mike (Laura) Peterson of Beaver Dam, Wis.; sister, Charlotte Hargrave of Buckley, Wash.; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be sent to the Havre Senior Citizens' Center or to a charity of your choice.
