Big Sandy sophomore Gage Brumwell was an unstoppable force for the Pioneers during last weekend's district 9C tournament in Havre.
Brumwell had 21 points last Wednesday in Big Sandy's win over Turner and had 31 points in a losing effort to Hays-Lodge Pole Friday night. In loser-out action Saturday morning, Brumwell had 21 points against KG. Coming back in the consolation game against Blue Sky Saturday night, Brumwell had 12 points. Brumwell scored all 85 of his points without having a three-point field goal. Brumwell shot the ball extremely well from the field, averaging 54 percent for the weekend, highlighted by 73 percent in the game against KG.
The 6-foot-5 forward also grabbed nine rebounds in each game with Turner and Blue Sky and had 15 against Hays-Lodge Pole and 14 against KG. Brumwell had six blocked shots total on the weekend.

The hot shooting of Hays-Lodge Pole senior Shawn Shambo helped guide the Thunderbirds to a berth in this weekend's Northern C Divisional Boys Basketball Tournament.
Shambo scored 23 points in the Thunderbirds' first-round win Wednesday night over Box Elder, including five three-pointers. Friday night in the semifinal game with Big Sandy, Shambo scored 13 points, nine coming off of three-point baskets. In the tough loss Saturday night to Rocky Boy in the championship game, Shambo had 19 points with three three-pointers. Leading his team to victory in the challenge game Monday night against Blue Sky, Shambo scsored 20 points, including four three-point baskets.
Shambo also pulled down 38 rebounds on the weekend and dished out 14 assists.
The Thunderbirds (16-6) face Winnett (21-) today at 1:30 at the divisional tournament in Great Falls.
