Chester, Sunburst, Blue Sky and Big Sandy each earned first-round wins Thursday at the District 6C Volleyball Tournament in Joplin.
Chester defeated Box Elder 15-5, 15-6, 15-6; Big Sandy won over KG 15-10, 15-5, 15-9; Blue Sky defeated J-I 15-2, 15-12, 15-3; and Sunburst beat Rocky Boy.
Chester had 10 aces in the win over Box Elder, led by Michele VanDyke and Katy Engstrom with three each. VanDyke added six kills and one block in the game. Box Elder was led by five kills each from Brandy Lawrence and Tami Infante and two aces each by Lawrence and Chassidy Parisian.
The KG KouGars had eight aces in their first-round loss to Big Sandy. Emily Stewart and Kim Berg each had three aces. Morgan Louvar had four aces to guide the Pioneers. Shana Davis led with nine kills, followed by Louvar and Laceen Ophus each with six.
Blue Sky's serving was dominating in the Eagles' first-round win. Blue Sky totaled 20 aces in the three-game set. Cassidy Han led with 11 and Jessica Patrick added four. Heather Wendland and Han combined for 17 kills in the game. J-I was led by Laine Lybeck with 11 saves. Cari Fusk and Amanda Moss each added seven.
Scores were not given in Sunburst's win over Rocky Boy. Statistics leaders for Sunburst were Carly Klienert with 16 kills, with Deserae Overcast adding nine assists. Rocky Boy's Tahia Gopher led with six of the team's 11 kills with Allie Sunchild leading with six assists.
