Montana folk music on tap

Original Montana folk music, ranging from bluegrass to ballads, will be featured at a performance of the Watercarvers Guild in Havre on Thursday.

The Watercarvers Guild is Darrell Casey on guitar and mandolin, and his sons David on piano, guitar and bouzouki and Nathan on electric bass. The band is the showcase of the 2001 and 2002 season of the Montana Performing Arts Consortium.

The Watercarvers Guild was a headline attraction at the Tumbleweed Festival in Washington state, and opened for the Canadian band Blue Rodeo at the Sandpoint, Idaho, music festival in August.

The Montana band also has performed at many folk festivals throughout the Northwest and has been featured on many public radio stations.

The show begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Student Union Building ballroom at Montana State University-Northern. Admission costs $10 for adults, $7.50 for students and is free with a valid Northern student ID or a Northern Showcase Series ticket.

The concert is a production of Northern Showcase.
