MALTA Mary Edith Kron, 94, died Monday, Aug. 19, 2002, in Great Falls following surgery.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Little White Church in Malta.
Mary was born June 3, 1908, in Ketchikan, Alaska, to Charles and Elizabeth Chapman Hogben. She grew up near Walla Walla, Wash.
Mary married Leonard Fredrick Kron on April 3, 1931, in Glasgow. The couple lived in Havre and Malta and eventually settled on a farm seven miles east of Malta, where they raised their six children.
She taught in Montana schools for many years, beginning in 1929 in Carter County, followed by more than 30 years in Phillips County schools. Her interest in education was vital and was passed on to her children, all of whom became teachers.
In addition to her long teaching career, Mary was active for many years in community and professional organizations, including Malta Woman's Club, BPW, Delta Kappa Gamma, and Montana Farmers Union. Although she traveled worldwide, in recent years she especially enjoyed her family, reading and rides in the country.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard in 1961; parents; and brothers, Richard and Jack Hogben.
Survivors include her sister, Vera Kelly of Malta; children, Caroline (Richard) Caves of Saco, Coleen (Robert) Banderob of Darby, Curt (Sue) Kron of Malta, Bruce (Carol) Kron of Livingston, Gordon (Pam) Kron of Tok, Alaska, and Kathleen (Robert) Lumsden of Malta; 24 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Delta Kappa Gamma scholarship; fund or to the Phillips County Museum at Malta.
