Virginia R. "Ginny" Cox, 83, retired bookkeeper, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, at a Havre Care facility of natural causes.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Van Orsdel United Methodist Church, with Pastor Mike Parr officiating. A committal service will follow at the
Highland Cemetery. A fellowship reception is to follow committal service at the Van Orsdel United Methodist Church.
Ginny was born Dec. 23, 1918, to H. Virgil and Emma (Oxford) Merklin at her Aunt Donnie Kiesling's home in Havre. With the exception of a few years when she was very young, she lived her entire life in the Havre area. She lived on the farm her parents purchased in 1926 located 13-1/2 miles Northwest of town just off the Wildhorse Trail. She attended Grainbelt School until moving to Havre in 1932 to complete her schooling. She graduated from Havre High School in 1936 and worked as a telephone operator. On July 18, 1937, she married Glenn L. Cox in Havre. Glenn has preceded her in death. The couple had three children.
Her life was very active. She worked in Buttery's Accounting Department for several years before joining Havre Ford Dealership's bookkeeping group in 1960. She advanced to Office Manager and Head Bookkeeper prior to her retirement in 1990. In addition, she taught ballroom dancing for many years and was a member of the "Joycettes" dance group, who entertained at many recitals and other social events in Northern Montana.
Ginny was a member of the Van Orsdel United Methodist Church. She loved to work in her garden and travel. She also loved to visit and be with family, especially when her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were involved.
She was preceded in death by her parents H. Virgil and Emma (Oxford) Merklin, and husband, Glenn L. Cox.
Survivors include her children, Virgil G. Cox of Gastonia, N.C., Gary L. Cox of Marion, Mass., and Bonnie L. Compton of Fernley, Nev.; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and close friends.
