With next weekend marking the last meet before the state tournament, the Havre High swimmers worked on fine- tuning many elements in Hardin on Saturday to ensure the Ponies will be at their best come Feb. 1-2.
Five teams participated in the Class A Meet, one of the first times the Ponies were competing against schools not from Class AA. The girls sent a message to all the other teams that they are the heavy favorites to take their third straight state title with a dominating first-place finish. The girls scored 240 points with Hardin in second with just 64 points.
The Havre boys also had a strong meet, taking second with 158 points, just three points behind Hardin, which finished first.
"The kids had an excellent meet with several personal bests," Havre head coach Chris O'Donnell said. "Due to new rules changes, we couldn't use the blocks. The kids still swam their best times. That says a lot about our kids. They are determined to achieve their best."
The Pony swimmers are in Helena on Saturday for their last meet of the regular season.
