Whitefish defeats Vulcan for Bantam tourney championship

The Havre Koefod Bantam hockey team finished fourth in its own tournament last weekend at the Havre Ice Dome.

Havre won its first game Friday 5-1 over Bozeman.

The Ice Hawks were led by two goals from Andy Hanson, one unassisted, one assisted by Shiloh Barrett. Josh Strissel and Josh Morse each added unassisted goals with Ben Erickson and Andy Hanson combining on the final goal for Havre.

The lone goal for the Stingers came off a deflection of a Havre player's skate.

Goalie Mark Larson had 22 saves in the game.

In the first game Friday, Vlucan defeated Missoula 6-4.

Havre stayed on the winning track Saturday morning, defeating Missoula 7-2.

Andy Hanson once again scored two unassisted goals. Ben Erickson scored the first goal, assisted by Tyson Anderson and Josh Morse. Morse followed with a goal, assisted by Michael Erickson. Tyson Anderson added back-to-back goals, one assisted by Scott Ladenburg and the other by Austin Small. Morse rounded out the scoring with his second goal, assisted by Michael Erickson and Josh Strissel.

Larson had 17 saves in two periods and David Zentmire had six in one period.

The morning game found Vulcan winning 4-1 over Whitefish. Vulcan took to the ice again after the Havre game, defeating Bozeman 9-1. Whitefish followed with consecutive shutouts 9-0 over Missoula and 7-0 over Bozeman.

Havre played the final game of the day, losing to Vulcan 6-4.

Michael Erickson had two goals in the game with Josh Morse and Andy Hanson each adding one. Josh Strissel, Michael Erickson and Josh Morse had assists in the game.

Larson had 28 saves as goalie in the game.

Playing for third and fourth in the tournament, Havre fell to Missoula, 1-0.

Missoula scored with 1:52 left in the game.

Larson had 31 saves.

In the championship game, Whitefish defeated Vulcan 4-2.

Also in action on the weekend, the Havre Ice Hawks Squirt B' team traveled to Bozeman and Butte for two games.

Facing Bozeman, the Squirts won 4-3. Kyle Miller had two goals in the game with Jesse Majeres and Tyler Miller each adding one. Majeres had two assists and Miller had one.

Goalie Willie DeVries had 23 saves.

Traveling to Butte, the Squirts fell to the Blues 5-2.

Kyle Miller and Dillon McLain each had one goal in the game with Jesse Majeres and Miller with the assists.

DeVries had 22 saves.

The next games for the Squirts are against Bozeman on Saturday at 5 p.m. at the Havre Ice Dome.
