Former Havre High graduate LaShae Michels recently competed for the University of Mary Track and Field Team at the Yellow Jacket Invitational and the U-Mary Triangle. The Yellow Jacket Invitational was held Feb. 2 in Spearfish, S.D., and the U-Mary Triangle was held Feb. 5 at the University of Mary.
The University of Mary track and field teams are enjoying a successful season. Twenty-three athletes have qualified for nationals.
Head track and field coach Mike Thorson is especially happy with his team's performances in their last two meets.
"We had a great meet down in Spearfish," Thorson said. "We're very pleased with some of the efforts we had."
In the U-Mary Triangle, Coach Thorson felt it was difficult to judge how well the athletes did. Still, he was happy with how the team performed.
"The meet was small, but we had some strong performances," Thorson said. "It's always nice to perform well in front of your home crowd."
At the Yellow Jacket Invitational, Michels competed in the long jump. She finished with a jump of 16 feet 8.5 inches, placing her in fifth overall. At the U-Mary Triangle, she competed in the 200 meters, the long jump, and the triple jump. She ran the 200 meters in a time of 28.92, placing her in fourth overall. She finished the long jump with a jump of 15 feet 9 inches, earning her a fourth-place finish. She finished the triple jump with a jump of 34 feet 5 3/4 inches, placing her in fourth overall.
