TURNER Vernon E. Halverson, 84, longtime Turner area farmer and rancher died Feb. 17, 2002, at a Havre hospital due to natural causes.
Funeral services were scheduled for this morning in the Harlem American Lutheran Church with burial following in Turner Cemetery.
Vernon was born Dec. 26, 1917, at the family farm near Turner to Bernard and Clara (Tostrud) Halverson. He attended school at Polley School and graduated from Turner High School in 1936. He started farming after high school and continued farming and ranching all his life.
Vernon was very active in 4-H and served as a leader for many years. He was a member of the Turner American Lutheran Church.
He married Mildred Brown Perryman in 1962.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mildred Halverson, who died Feb. 17, 1998.
Survivors include his son, Patrick Halverson of Seminole, Texas; daughters, Susan Evanger of Tampa, Fla., and Sally Stengem of South Lake, Texas; sisters, Eleanor Fitzgibbons of Kalispell and Alice Graves of California; seven grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be sent to the Turner American Lutheran Church or Feed My Sheep Community Soup Kitchen in Havre.
Arrangements are by Edwards Funeral Home in Chinook.
