Gary and Leo's Fresh Foods will participate in the IGA USA and U.S. Space Camp Scholarship Program, the largest privately funded scholarship program offered in the United States for space exploration.
Gary and Leo's Fresh Foods purchased four scholarship packages, one each for Havre, Conrad, Florence and Columbia Falls. They will be awarded to area children based on their answers to a space exploration-themed essay question.
The scholarship package includes five days of intensive training at the U.S. Space Camp in Huntsville, Ala. or Titusville, Fla. Space Camp trainees will study space technology, space shuttle operations, and space station design, among other topics.
To qualify to receive a scholarship, area children between the ages of 9 and 12 must write an essay answering the question, "How could space exploration benefit your hometown?"
