Canine hunters entered in the Montana Department Fish, Wildlife and Parks' hunting dog photo contest are now online at www.fwp.state.mt.us. Just click on the black lab at the right of the home page. FWP officials say the contest is attracting entrants from around the state.
The contest rules state every dog entered in the contest is a winner by the fact its hunting companion entered it. Finalists will be selected in these categories:
Best of Breed
Best of All Breeds
Best Overall Companion
Most Unusual Dog for a Hunting Dog
Cutest Hunting Dog in The Making
Hunting Dog Hall of Fame for past hunting dogs that will never be forgotten.
A panel of dog-loving FWP employees will select the finalists. Dog finalists will receive special recognition on the FWP Web site this winter, from Dec. 15 to Feb. 14, and a surprise gift. Owners of finalists will receive a poster-sized reprint of their dog's photo and a one-year subscription to Montana Outdoors magazine. The magazine features a photo story titled "Gun Dogs" in the September/October issue.
By entering the contest, dog owners agree to allow the agency to use the photos in news release packages and on the FWP Web site, though copyrights will be retained by the owners.
To enter, pick a favorite photo of the hunting dog, or take a new photo this fall. For each photo put on a yellow sticky tag: owner's name, full address, phone number, dog's name, breed if known, dog's age, what it hunts, and the location and year the photo was taken.
Mail the photos, protected by cardboard, to: Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks, Attn: Photo Contest, ConEd, 1420 E. Sixth Ave., P.O. Box 200701, Helena, MT 59620-0701. FWP will return all photos that are submitted with addresses attached.
Dog owners who have the photo in an electronic jpeg file may e-mail it to firstname.lastname@example.org. Photos must be received by FWP no later than Oct. 31..
