The Havre Midgets hockey team pulled off a huge upset Sunday at the Havre Ice Dome, defeating the Billings Bulls A team in a conference game.
Billings, considered one of the top teams in the state, lost to the Ice Hawks 3-2. Four Billings players were not in action against Havre due to injury.
"Going into the game (Billings was) the best in the state," Havre's Levi Briese said. "But after the game, we showed our team could be state champs this year."
Brett Patrick led the Havre attack with two goals. Briese, Andy Meyers and Garrett Drake had the assists for Patrick's goals. Patrick's first goal came with 1.1 seconds remaining in the first period on a breakaway slap shot from the blue line. The puck skimmed the top of the goalie's glove before sailing over his head for the score.
"Brett had a phenomenal game," Briese said. "It was our only game of the weekend and we knew we had to win it."
Havre's other goal was scored by Jack Stilger, assisted by Corey Stremcha.
The Midgets (12-9-2) travel to Sidney for a three-day tournament this weekend.
