Havre wins two, loses two in Sidney

The Havre Midget hockey team traveled almost as far as a person can this weekend without leaving the state.

What was planned as a tournament in which Havre would face four other teams in Sidney ended with only two other teams showing for Havre to play.

Havre split on the weekend, winning two games and losing two. Havre defeated Miles City twice, while losing the other two games to Sidney.

In the Ice Hawks' first game, Sidney skated to an easy 8-1 win. Garrett Drake scored the lone Havre goal.

After a tough loss, Havre bounced back to shut out Miles City 10-0. Mark Benjamin defended the goal and earned the shut out.

Jason Johnstone continued to sizzle on the ice, scoring four goals in the game, one unassisted. J.R. Morse assisted the other three. Cody McLain scored two goals, one assisted by Garrett Drake, and one by Chazz Hurlburt. Other goals were scored by Jack Stilger, assisted by Johnstone, Brett Patrick, assisted by Eric McLain, and an unassisted goal by Levi Briese.

Havre's third game of the tournament resulted in a shut out coming at the hands of Sidney. Sidney defeated the Ice Hawks 7-0.

The final game Sunday morning resulted in a Havre win 11-3 over Miles City. Jordan Patterson led the Ice Hawks with three goals. Two of Patterson's goals were assisted by Hurlburt and the other by Jon Johnstone. Briese added two goals, assisted by Jon Johnstone and Corey Stremcha. Single goals were scored by Cody McLain, assisted by Drake, Jon Johnstone, unassisted, Patrick, assisted by Drake and Cody McLain, Tyson Roe, assisted by Hurlburt and Stremcha, Eric McLain, assisted by Hurlburt, and Stremcha, assisted by Jon Johnstone.

The Ice Hawks face rival Butte Saturday at 3 p.m. and Sunday at 11 a.m. The other Ice Hawks team will also face Butte following each of the games on Saturday and Sunday.
