Attention, Hi-Line-area skiers, snowboarders and anyone else nostalgic for Montana winter conditions. Bear Paw Ski Bowl is opening this weekend.
The downhill ski hill located on the Chippewa Cree Recreation Area 29 miles south of Havre will open at noon Saturday and at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, hill manager Dave Martens said.
"We've got 3 inches of new snow on a 8- to 20-inch base," Martens said. "Some crud, but we've got snow and we're going to open."
Lift tickets both days will be $12 for everybody, Martens said.
The lack of snow late last year and early this year prevented the hill from opening in early January as usual. Snowdance Ski Association and Eagle Creek Ski Patrol volunteers worked hard last fall to get the hill ready for the season to begin only to see the hill sit high, dry and idle.
