With a first-round win over Harlem and another win late Thursday night over Glasgow, the Chinook Sugarbeeters volleyball team will face Malta tonight at 5 in the semifinal round.
In game two of the District 2B Volleyball Tournament, Chinook had 29 kills and seven aces to defeat Harlem 15-4, 15-1, 15-0.
With the win over Harlem, Chinook advanced to play Glasgow in the final game Thursday night. The Sugarbeeters defeated the Scotties 15-12, 15-9, 15-6. The Sugarbeeters had 41 kills, seven aces and 56 digs in the game.
Against Harlem, Chinook was led by Kelly Acra and Kayla Erskine with six kills each, coming off 22 assists from Kelsie Whitney. Whitney and Susie Thackeray each added three aces. Miranda Sather led with seven of the team's 15 digs and Brittany Buhmann had four of the team's five blocks.
For Harlem, Wynter Smith had three of the team's five kills. Senna Bell had all five of the Wildcats' assists. K. Talks Different and Smith had four digs apiece. The team totaled 12. Megan Walls had both digs for the Wildcats. Harlem had no aces on the game.
Harlem faces Poplar this morning at 10.
Chinook advanced to play Glasgow and escaped with the win.
Acra led the team with nine of 41 kills with Whitney adding 34 of 39 assists. The Sugarbeeters once again had seven aces on the game, led by Whitney with two. Chinook totaled 56 digs with Sather leading with 13. Buhmann and Acra each had two blocks with the team totaling six.
Chinook faces Malta tonight at 5 in semifinal action.
In other action at the tournament, Wolf Point defeated Plentywood 15-8, 15-6, 15-6 in the first round and Glasgow defeated Poplar 15-9, 15-2, 15-12. Malta, who had a first-round bye, faced Wolf Point in the second round, winning 15-12, 15-10, 15-4.
