    The election committee of Rocky Boy’s Indian Reservation is scheduling an election to fill the chairman and another seat on the Chippewa Cree Business Committee. The Feb. 3 election will replace elected chairman Kenneth Blatt St. Marks and John “Chance” Houle’s former positions on the committee. “Those two position are crucial to everyday government activity decision making,” said Dustin Whitford, who sits on the normally nine-person Business Committee.   • Rocky Boy embezzler Huston's sentencing rescheduled for March

    One of the people indicted during the Guardians Project investigation of Rocky Boy’s Indian Reservation was scheduled to be sentenced today, but the hearing has been moved to March. Shad James Huston, who lives in Havre and is a former Havre Public School District Board of Trustees chair, has had his sentencing pushed back to March 12. Stephanie Padget is the 2015 champion from Sunnyside Intermediate School and may be competing at the state level soon.   • Casino thief pleads guilty

    Amber Nicole Wells, one of the three women who were charged with felonies for stealing from a Rocky Boy’s Indian Reservation casino, pleaded guilty Tuesday. She, along with Maria Rose Newton and Melinda Marie Descharm, on or around Jan. 20, 2013, stole more than $1,000 from the casino, her indictment reads. Wells pleaded guilty at her 2:30 p.m. hearing Tuesday at Missouri River Federal Courthouse in Great Falls.     A bill to grant federal recognition to the Little Shell Tribe of Chippewa Indians has been introduced in the United States Senate. Democratic Sen. Jon Tester and Republican Steve Daines co-sponsored the bill that was introduced Tuesday, the first day of the session. For years, the tribe has had state recognition, but the federal Bureau of Indian Affairs has balked at granting official recognition.
