  • June trial set for attempted homicide

    The man accused of attempting to kill another Havre man in November is scheduled to go to trial June 24. District Judge Dan Boucher set the date in an omnibus hearing Monday. Douglas Hopf, born in 1968, was charged Dec. 10 with attempted deliberate homicide, criminal endangerment and tampering with witnesses and informants.     The auditions for “Over the River and Through the Woods” tonight and Wednesday call for older people to play Italian grandparents. Audrey Barger is directing the play and she said that it is a great opportunity for older people who want to try acting.   • Fire claims two dogs, kitchen

    Firefighters were called to Ike Avenue Monday afternoon to put out a fire that took the lives of two dogs. The call about a fire in a kitchen came to the Havre Fire Department at 12:15 p.m. Monday. Eight firefighters in two engines, along with emergency medical personnel and Havre police, raced to the 1300 Block of Ike Avenue to put out the fire that was contained in the kitchen.   • City eyes 20-year plan for streets, sidewalks

    Havre officials are looking at a 20-year, $30 million project to renovate city streets and storm sewers. Council members say the money is not all that is needed, but it will stave off some of the problems they see coming with the city’s aging infrastructure.
