  • Senate hears about GOP tax-cut plan

    HELENA, Mont. (AP) — State senators on Friday heard the first of two Republican representatives' plans to lower income taxes. Republican Rep. Keith Regier introduced in the Senate Taxation Committee a measure to permanently cut income taxes in every bracket by 0.1 percent. The Kalispell representative said he would support an amendment to House Bill 166 suggested by supportive peers to increase the cut to 0.2 percent.   • 'Men Who Cook ...' set for March

    The ninth annual “Men Who Cook for Women who Wine” fundraiser is set for March 28 at the Hingham Community Center. Cathie Haas, an organizer of the event, said that men from across the Hi-Line will showcase their culinary skills and prepare various dishes. The people who attend will have the opportunity to sample the dishes and vote for their favorite chefs.   • Daines pushing to fund reservation irrigation projects

    Sen. Steve Daines is pushing for legislation that would bring funds to many Indian irrigation projects, including on the Fort Belknap Indian Reservation. The bill would allocate almost $8.4 million to Fort Belknap to help the reservation fund projects. Also included in the bill are is Blackfeet Indian Irrigation Project, which would receive around $25.6 million, Fort Peck with $12.7 million, Crow with $16.9 million and Flathead with $82.2 million. “The bill would authorize $35 million each year from (fiscal year) 2015 to 2... Full story

  • MAT's Valentine's dinner entertains with cabaret

    Montana Actors’ Theatre is holding its Valentine’s dinner and cabaret at the Historic Post Office Saturday. The event will feature The Electric City Cabaret, a martini bar and dinner. Tickets are $35 per person or $50 for a couple. Now, Havre youth Josh Warp can add his name to the list of successful free-throw shooters from the Havre area. Warp, 12, captured the Elks Montana State Hoop Shoot championship in the boys age 12-13 category this past weekend at the competition in Livingston.
